parenting mistakes

Parenting mistakes are a common topic on the internet, but this week I’m not going to address them myself. Instead, I’m going to point you in the direction of an article written by Tracy Hutchinson, a therapist with 18 years experience. She points out these mistakes not to shame parents, but to help them see how important it is to foster emotional and mental resiliency in children.

Her points are good and valid and important for parents to know. And I would like to add my thoughts to it.

First of all, give yourself grace when you do make mistakes. Ask yourself, what should I do differently next time? Then apologize if you feel the need, and move on. Remember to take small steps every day.

Second, be teachable. Be open to learning about how you could improve in these areas. That’s what mentors, parenting coaches, and good friends are for.

And last, be brave. Brave enough to change if you need to. Brave enough to take a stand and do what’s best for your child’s emotional and mental health.

If you feel you need help working through any of the mistakes, let’s talk. Schedule a free intro call here.
