Is quitting youth sports an option in your home?
When your kids come to you and say, “I want to quit,” your answers may vary from “No way, you’ve got to stick it out to “Well, if you really don’t want to play, I guess it’s okay.”
As a parent, it’s often hard to know what exactly to say. You are torn between wanting your child to learn a hard lesson and wanting him to be happy.
A couple of weeks ago, my friend James Leath, mental conditioning coach, got an email from one of the kids he works with and it said this:
Hello Coach Leath,
My dad says I can’t quit my team, but I don’t want to play football anymore. All I do is sit on the bench during the games. What should I do?
Your Friend,
Chris, 11
I absolutely loved James’ answer. Take a few minutes to read what he said.
